Objective
At the work placement (5 credits), students are able to conduct distance and near refractions and assess the binocular status. The eye examination includes refraction, and assessments of near vision and binocular vision. The students are able to evaluate vision and visual problems at different viewing distances utilising various methods of measurements and assessments.
Students are able to recognize needs for referral and are capable of customer-oriented communication on vision, visual problems and eye care.
After completing the study unit, students are able to suggest orthoptic treatments, in which the test results and visual needs are considered. as well as their link to the symptoms. They are able to justify the need for treatments and can link them to the symptoms. They know how to plan and carry out orthoptic treatments.
The students acquire skills in the second domestic language (Swedish) that are necessary in their professional field, as required by national legislation (352/2003 8§). The students acquire verbal and written language and communication skills that are at least at the B1 level as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They are able to seek optometric information from various sources and can convey both verbal and written information.
Content
The Golden Standard for Eye Examination, assessing and solving problems relating to binocularity and accommodation. Determination of a prism correction according to the Sheard and Percival criteria, utilising spherical powers with high ACA values, graphical analysis, high refractive error, examining children, anisometropia, amblyopia, ARC, determining the need for orthoptic treatment and implementing it. Customer service and communication in Swedish.
