Objective

Students can explain the basic features of diseases and their prevalence in the population. They are able to explain the pathological changes of diseases at cellular, tissue and organ level and demonstrate their connection to the eye and visual functions. They are able to give first aid in an emergency and in connection with the most common accidents and cases of illness.

Content

Diseases at cellular level, infectious reactions, hemodynamic disorders, tumours, immunologic disorders, metabolic disorders, toxicology, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, nutritional disorders, congenital and hereditary disorders, basic knowledge and skills equivalent to EA1 (basic course in first aid).

Students use the appropriate core concepts as well as make choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They recognise the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
