Oral Self-Care Methods and Prevention of Oral DiseasesLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student is able to define caries and periodontal diseases and their aetiology, and epidemiology. S/he can explain the effect of saliva on oral health, and illnesses and medication affecting saliva secretion. S/he is able to take and interpret the various saliva tests. S/he can explain the effect of using fluoride and xylitol on oral health. S/he is able to apply methods of cleaning the mouth and guide a peer student in using oral care products. The student is able to do a plaque discolouration and mechanical cleaning for a peer student's teeth.
