Objective
Students are familiar with the causes and various techniques of the below the knee amputations. Students understand the levels of amputations in reference to functional capacity and can relate this to the fabrication of transtibial prostheses. Students are able to measure transtibial prostheses at basic level. Students can fabricate the prosthesis under supervision and fit it to the client. Students apply their knowledge on materials to the fabrication process. Students can instruct clients in the use of the transtibial prosthesis and evaluate its suitability.
Content
Causes for the below the knee amputations. Amputation techniques. Classification of functional capacity. Structure of the prosthesis. Assessment and measurements. Fabrication process and various technical solutions. Fitting of transtibial prosthesis. Evaluation of fittingness, instruction and client education.
