Water Treatment Plant DesignLaajuus (4 ECTS)
Course unit code: TG00AB81
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
After completing the course the student knows how to select suitable design criteria and design process for the water treatment plant. The student is familiar with the basic process design concept as well as selection of unit operations and their working principles used in water treatment plant design.
Content
1. The content of the course includes the fundamentals of both industrial and municipal fresh water treatments. This gives the student an understanding of the design process in connection to plant hydraulics, mass balances and process and instrumentation solutions. The treatment stages such as pre-treatment – sedimentation, filtration, and final polishing of the quality of water are made familiar to the student. Also disinfection of water for portable use with alternative methods is highlighted.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. Evaluation criteria for content; fundamentals of both industrial and municipal fresh water treatments The student shall be able to recognize, define and describe central elements of selection criteria and pictured fresh water treatment methods.
2. Evaluation criteria for content; design process in connection to plant hydraulics, mass balances and process and instrumentation solutions. The student shall show that he/she can come up with logical categorizations and relevant problem solutions. The student shall be able to name, list and relate to central elements of hydraulic calculations, mass balances and process solutions.
3. Evaluation criteria for content; pre-treatment, sedimentation, filtration, and final polishing of the quality of water is made familiar to the student. The student shall be able to underline, repeat and match central elements of pre-treatment, sedimentation, filtration and final polishing as solutions in water treatment processes.
