Objective

Upon completing this course the student will:
- Understand the accounting equation and its implications
- Understand the double entry system
- Be familiar with the main structure of the income statement and the balance sheet
- Understand the process of preparing final accounts
- Understand the various adjustments made in the process of arriving at the final accounts
- Comprehend some of the controversies surrounding accounting assumptions and principles
Students will be able to:
- Record accounting transactions using T-accounts
- Construct final accounts (income statement and balance sheets) from the trial balance after making the required adjustments to the trial balance
- Understand the consequences of accounting decisions on financial results
- Understand the implications of accounting assumptions and principles on the financial results presented in the final accounts
