Objective

After completing the course, the student will understand the norms and practices of written, verbal and web-based communication necessary for expert communication. The student will be able to reflect his/her own learning and structure information. The student will be able to demonstrate the learned skills through texts and presentations and will know how to search, structure and disseminate information. The student will be able to take suitable roles in interaction situations of study projects.

Content

- Confidence in public speaking and principles of group communication
- Planning of different communication situations: taking the floor, introducing a topic, counseling and teaching, seminar work, and peer evaluation
- Visualization and argumentation as part of verbal communication
- Professional text composition and layout: e.g. job applications, study-related writing, reports, summaries, web-based communication
- Using, evaluating, and referring to source material
- Professional reading and writing skills and word processing
- Gathering information
- Information searching process
- Analysing web texts

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

In communication situations related to his/her field the student trusts his/her communication skills to manage different types of professional communication events. The student can with help compose typical text types used at the field of cultural production and studies. The student can seek for information from different sources of information and use reference techniques correctly.

In communication situations related to his/her field the student uses his/her communication skills to manage different types of professional communication events. The student can compose different text types used at the field of cultural production. The student can seek for information from various different sources and use reference techniques correctly.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student develops his/her Finnish language skills and communication skills as a part of his/her professional competence. In communication situations related to his/her field the student uses his/her communication skills creatively and individually to manage different types of professional communication events. The student can compose independently different text types used at the field of cultural production and studies and seek interesting, reader-based starting points to them. The student’s ability to use the language is on top level. The student can independently seek for information from multiple sources and use reference techniques correctly.
