X-ray examinations and interventions as part of patient careLaajuus (4 ECTS)
Course unit code: SR00AA18
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
The students will learn about the commonest equipment used in x-ray examinations and interventions and can use them safely. They will learn about the endovascular examination process including the preparation and post care. They will learn how to work aseptically and to ensure radiation protection and to monitor changes in the patient’s condition and how to give ambulatory care. The students will also understand the importance of a multiprofessional team and their own responsibility as part of the team.
Content
Aseptic operation in x-ray examinations and interventions
Endovascular procedure
Operation of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) equipment
Holistic treatment of patient
Safe handling of equipment used in the interventions
Radiation protection during the interventions
Ambulatory care during interventions
Clinical laboratory examinations
Qualifications
Advanced imaging studies, X-ray examinations
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students know about the endovascular process including the preparation and post care. They also know about the importance of maintaining aseptic work procedures and radiation protection in angiological examinations and interventions. They will recognise the commonest equipment used in examinations and interventions, their preparation and purpose of use, and can use them under guidance. The students can appreciate the importance of overall care of angiographic patients and can act correctly under guidance to provide ambulatory care to them.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students can participate in angiological interventions. They have also learned about other endovascular interventions and can take into consideration the patient’s overall care and working methods that maintain asepsis and radiation protection. They will know how to prepare and use the commonest tools and equipment used in these. The students can recognise changes in the patient’s condition and can, under guidance, assist in emergency care.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students are able to plan and apply what they have learned about the commonest examinations and interventions with regard to aseptic ways of working, radiation protection, tools, equipment and overall care of the patient. The students can plan and apply their work in the commonest endovascular interventions taking into account matters concerning safety, asepsis, radiation protection, tools, equipment and the patient’s overall care. They will recognise and know how to operate in demanding emergency care issues with angiographic patients.
The students can recognise changes in the patient’s condition and can, under guidance, assist in emergency care.
