Objective
The student can identify different materials used for furniture, deterioration of different materials and reasons for deterioration. The student is able to consider the specific nature and needs of different materials in the conservation process and identify the order of the required conservation treatments.
The student is able to make the conservation documentation of a piece of furniture on a professional level. The student can make conservation and/or restoration of a piece of furniture with veneering and traditional or modern transparent surface treatment.
The student is able to make conservation and if needed restoration of furniture or a wooden object composed of many different and rare materials and is able to take into consideration the specific techniques and materials needed for these other materials. The student knows how to find information concerning rare materials and their conservation.
Content
Identification, conservation and restoration of different constructions and surface materials and techniques used in furniture and in wooden objects.
Conservation and restoration of a piece of veneered furniture with a transparent surface treatment. Materials for furniture conservation. Filling and retouching. Identification, research and conservation of a peace of furniture or a wooden object made of rare materials (ivory, bone, metal, stone, leather etc.)

Approved passing of the course demands that the student fulfills the requirements specified in each course implementation.
