Course unit code: TF00AB13
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
After this course the student knows the different cell types which are commonly used in cell cultures and he/she understands the function of different components in the cell culture media. He/she knows the aseptic techniques and how to detect the bio contaminants in the culture.
Content
1. The basics in cell culture technique: how to build a cell culture, how to defrost, divide, mount, quantify, freeze and detect the contaminants.
2. Aseptic techniques and bio waste handling
3. The documenting of the working steps
Qualifications
Cell Biology
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student understands how to culture the cells and why cell culture is needed. He/she also can differentiate the cell lines and primary cells.
2. The student can work aseptically and knows how to handle the bio waste.
3. The student can document the working steps in the basic level.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1. The student can explain how different components in the cell culture affects the cell culture environment. He/she can also compare the cell lines and primary cells.
2. The student can culture the cells carefully based on the given instructions. He/she can also plan his/her work wisely and make conclusions.
3. The student's documentation is logical and precise.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The student can choose the right culturing components to the different cell lines. He/she knows the new techniques like stem cell culture and iPS.
2. The student can independently evaluate the cells in the culture and make the right conclusions.
3. The student's reporting is excellent.
