Biochemistry 2Laajuus (4 ECTS)
Course unit code: TF00AB10
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
The student knows the most important areas of the immunological system and knows how these work in the immune defense mechanism. The student knows the research areas in the RNA interference, epigenetics and the tissue technology, like stem cells applications. The student can also classify different viruses. He/ knows how viruses replicate in the host cells and how viruses and cells communicate.
Content
1. Immune system and antibody production
2. Viruses
3. Application areas: RNA interference (RNAi), Epigenetics, Stem Cell Technology
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student knows the most important parts of the immune system and how these work. He/she can also tell how antibodies are produced.
2. The student can classify viruses and knows the structural differences of these classes. He/she can also tell how viruses communicate with the host cells.
3. The student knows the research fields in RNAi, Epigenetics and Stem Cell Technology.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1. The student knows how the different components of the immune system work together (cellular, humoral and soluble mediators). He/she can also compare the different antibody production methods.
2. The student can compare viruses based on the structural differences. He/she can explain how viruses communicate with the cells and how different viruses replicate.
3. The student knows the research fields in RNAi, Epigenetics and Stem cell technology and also the application areas of these fields.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The student can evaluate how the different components of the immune system work together. He/she can also evaluate the different antibody production methods.
2. The student can evaluate how the structural virus differences affect the replication.
3. The student can critically evaluate the application areas of the RNAi, Epigenetics and Stem cell technology in the future.
