Course unit code: TF00AB04

General information

Credits
3 ECTS

Objective

The student has an understanding of the importance of the microbial activities in nature, of the possibility of using microbes for solving environmental pollution problems and an idea of how to develop new products and processes that are accustomed to environmental demands and limitations.
The student has become familiar with different biotechnical environment-friendly production methods, products or treatment methods. He/she understands the meaning of sustainable development and how it can be applied in biotechnology.

Content

1. Importance of microbes from an ecological and sustainable development´s point of view
2. Drinking water and waste water treatment microbiology
3. Aerobic and anaerobic treatment of solid waste
4. Other topical techniques and applications in environmental biotechnology
