Objective
Students describe the operating principles, structures, use, operational maintenance and operational safety of basic devices and methods used at a laboratory. They use the basic laboratory equipment and work safely and ergonomically. Students use point-of-care (POC) testing devices and guide clients in their use. They identify the key concepts of quality assurance. Students can describe laboratory equipment maintenance procedures and sort laboratory waste.
Content
Chemical legislation, occupational safety, ergonomics, key concepts of quality assurance; measuring devices and measurement; laboratory balances and weighing, centrifuges and centrifugation, microscopes and microscopic methods, mixers, pH measurement, POC testing devices, laboratory water and water purification methods, laboratory chemicals, preparation of solutions, laboratory equipment maintenance, waste management.
