Objective

Core Contents:
sound system, sound effects, sound mixing and sound documentation.

Students know the equipment that belong to a sound system, their features, what they can be used for, operating principles and special requirements. They know how to set up and use sound systems. They know how to draw up and interpret sound plots and section maps. Students know the safety risks inherent in sound systems and take them into consideration as they are using sound systema. They are able to use and apply these skills when working in the technical crew of a live performance.

Content

The course covers sound systems as a whole as well as their parts, operating principles, sound recorders and sound manipulators.

Students are introduced to computer software used in sound systems and transfer networks and they learn how to use the systems. Students learn studio work, recording, saving and replaying sound in multi-channel formats, sound reproduction and sound editing.

Students learn to do sound mixing in various live performance situations. The course covers the various sound documentation symbols and notation in Finnish and English. Students learn to use the information of sound documents to define the time, space and staff requirments in setting up and striking a live production.

The course comprises lectures and practical assignments. English skills are learned during the Professional English course.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Completing the course with a pass grade requires that a student has met the objectives of the course as defined in the course implementation.
