Objective

The student will understand that all physical ideas depend on measurements and mathematics is the chief tool with which these ideas are worked. The student will be able to perform measurements and understand their importance to the theory. He/she knows the basic concepts and can solve problems of mechanics.

Content

Movement, energy, power, linear momentum, moment of inertia. Statics. Hydrostatics and –dynamics. Mathematics of mechanics.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

-Understands the idea of a physical formula
-Understands the basic concepts of mechanics
-Can solve simple problems in mechanics

Assessment criteria, good (3)

-Can apply formulas to solve different problems in mechanics

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

-Can use concepts of mechanics in order to identify the concepts needed in concrete problems and solve them

Further information

Course contains laboratory experiments. Good performance in laboratory rises the degree by one and minimal performance lowers the degree by one step.
