Objective

After completing the study unit, students
• can describe the medical rescue service as part of the cooperation between authorities
• are familiar with the principles of leadership in pre-hospital emergency care incidents
• can form an overall view of the scene of the accident
• are familiar with triage in mass-casualty incidents
• are familiar with the various operational principles of different authorities and understand the significance of cooperation in catastrophes or mass-casualty incidents
• can act as leaders in medical rescue service in cooperation with authorities
• are familiar with the medical, triage, treatment and transportation leadership tasks
• know the pre-hospital and in-hospital operational models regarding disturbances in normal conditions and in exceptional conditions
• are familiar with the operational models of different types of accidents

Legislation and communication in catastrophes
Basics of emergency planning and preparedness for accidents
Leadership in emergency care incidents

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students can describe the medical rescue service as part of the cooperation between authorities. Students are familiar with the principles of leadership in emergency care. Students are able to visualise the overall situation at the scene of the accident. Students are familiar with the principles of triage in pre-hospital emergency care. Students know the operational principles of relevant authorities. Students can work as part of the medical rescue organisation under supervision. Students are familiar with the tasks of medical, triage, treatment and transportation leaders. Students have participated in supervised simulated practice.

Students can describe the medical rescue service as part of the cooperation between authorities. Students understand the principles of leadership in pre-hospital emergency care incidents. Students can visualise the overall situation at the scene of the accident. Students master the principles of triage in pre-hospital emergency care. Students master the key operational principles of authorities. Students can work independently as part of the medical rescue service organisation in different types of accidents. Students know the tasks of medical, triage, treatment and transportation leaders. Students are familiar with the legislation in exceptional conditions and the basics of emergency planning and preparedness for accidents. Students have displayed competence to act as triage, treatment and transportation leaders in supervised simulated practice.

Students can lead independently a medical rescue organisation in different types of accidents. Students are proficient in the tasks of medical, triage, treatment and transportation leaders. Students know the basics of legislation as well as emergency planning and preparedness for accidents. Students can apply their competence to diverse situations. Students have displayed competence to act as medical, triage, treatment and transportation leaders in supervised simulated practice.
