Objective

Students are familiar with the objectives of Finnish maternity care regarding high-risk pregnancies. Students detect the most common risk pregnancies and the patient groups as well as their care path in the basic and specialised antenatal care.
Students understand individual, cultural and environmental risk factors and changes in the health of the mother and foetus in relation to these risk factors.
Students know how to plan high-risk patient’s care as part of the multiprofessional team.
Students consider ethical and theoretical aspects related to high-risk pregnancies.

Special situations due to family and cultural background in antenatal care
Long-term illnesses and pregnancy
Hereditary illnesses and their risks
Complications and special situations during pregnancy
Risk factors related to mental health during pregnancy
Special situations related to screening examinations
Special support offered by society

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students can describe the objectives of Finnish maternity care regarding the care of high-risk pregnancies.
Students describe the challenges of society to midwifery.
Students describe the individual and cultural factors related to high-risk pregnancies and their relation to the health of the mother and foetus.
Students describe the major high-risk pregnancies as well as patient groups and their care path in basic and specialised antenatal health care.
Students can describe the need for care and factors related to the care planning of the most common high-risk pregnancies.
Students can describe the basic knowledge and skills required in the follow-up of care regarding a high-risk patient and foetus.
Students describe situations requiring urgent care during pregnancy.
Students describe the ethical and theoretical factors of high-risk pregnancies affecting the health and health changes of a pregnant woman, foetus and family.

Students can describe the objectives of Finnish maternity care regarding the care of high-risk pregnancies and include case examples.
Students describe the individual and cultural factors related to high-risk pregnancies and their relation to the health of the mother and foetus as well as give examples of them.
Students can describe the need for care and the care planning of the most common high-risk pregnancies and factors related to the urgency of care as well as apply this knowledge and include examples.
Students can describe the basic knowledge and skills required in the follow-up care of a high-risk pregnancy patient and foetus as well as include case examples.
Students describe the ethical and theoretical factors of high-risk pregnancies affecting the health and health changes of a pregnant woman, foetus and family as well as include case examples.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students analyse the objectives of Finnish maternity care and the significance of the changing society to the care of high-risk pregnancies.
Students apply, analyse and give examples on the individual and cultural factors related to high-risk pregnancies and their relation to the health of the mother and foetus.
Students can describe and justify the need for care as well as factors related to the planning and urgency of care regarding the most common high-risk pregnancies in a versatile way. They cite and include case examples.
Students apply the methods required in the follow-up of mother and foetus theoretically and in a versatile way.
Students apply their knowledge of high-risk pregnancies and give examples of this knowledge in a justified way.
Students describe the ethical and theoretical factors of high-risk pregnancies affecting the health and health changes of a pregnant woman, foetus and family and include case examples.
