Objective
Students are able to manage normal childbirth with assistance and are familiar with the most common follow-up and assisting methods helping the wellbeing of the mother and foetus. They are capable of using their clinical skills and methods of assistance during the labour process from a client-oriented perspective. Students can evaluate the care culture of the labour process from the viewpoint of evidence-based nursing. They master professional interaction with families and know how to support and provide guidance to them. Students are able to plan, implement and evaluate the care of a healthy newborn baby independently. They are able to support and evaluate the families’ experiences of birth, early interaction and the first breastfeeding experiences. Students can justify their actions, analyse their learning experiences and develop their actions based on the feedback they receive. Students’ actions are ergonomic, ecological, ethical and professional.

Evaluation criteria: Accepted
Students are able to take care of normal delivery with the support of midwife.
Students assess the progress of labor and plan labor care in conjunction with the supervisor by applying theoretical knowledge and experience accumulated during the clinical practice.
Students master clinical skills and methods for monitoring during normal labor.
Students are able to support the parturient by providing information, guidance, emotional support (eg, encouragement, consolation) as well as physical support (for example, postures that relieve pain, taking care of basic needs). Students participate in postnatal debriefing.
Students´ activities and interaction with both customers and staff are ethical and professional.
Students are able to guide and support the family with the first contact and breastfeeding of the newborn in an appropriate manner.
Students are able to take care of the care and monitoring of the newborn independently.
The students are interested in reflecting the prevailing culture of labor care with other students and midwives in a constructive way, justifying their own views on the existing knowledge.
Students reflect on what they have learned. They develop their activities according to the feedback given to them.
