Health of Men, Women and FamiliesLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students understand and identify life situations of men, women and families in different phases of life affecting health and wellbeing. Students have competence to plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based methods of nursing promoting health and welfare client- and family-orientedly. Students are aware of the basics of sexual health, risk factors and their prevention. Students demonstrate competence to support couple relationships and families. Students can identify underlying factors related to family’s resources and help families to receive support.

Concepts related to sexuality and sexual rights as well as sexual diversity
Promotion of sexual and reproductive health of people of different ages and in different phases of life, identification of risk factors and their prevention
The PLISSIT model and its application to nurses’ work

Students are aware of concepts related to sexuality, sexual rights and sexual diversity.
Students identify risk factors and understand the significance of their prevention.
Students are aware of the objectives and operating environment of maternity care.
Students are aware of the special questions related to men’s health.
Students are familiar with services aimed at men, women and families.
Students can use client- and resource-oriented methods in supporting families.
Students identify challenges related to families’ resources, e.g. violence, substance abuse, abuse, depression.
Students are familiar with means of support for families.

Students can apply concepts related to sexuality.
Students identify risk factors and can utilise it in their guidance and nursing.
Students can instruct men, women and families with the use of various services accordingly.

Students can apply their knowledge to guidance and nursing of men, women and families in different phases of life commendably.
Students can plan, implement and evaluate the promotion of sexual and reproductive health of people of different ages and refer them to other support systems if required.
Students can identify challenges related to coping of families and can refer them to receive support.
