Objective

After completing the unit, the student knows the basics of IP routing, operation of static and dynamic routing and Distance Vector and Link Stat routing concepts. He/she knows the operation and configuration of the most important internal routing protocols, and how to use variable length subnets.

After copleting the unit, the student is able to compare the operation of various routing concepts, and to configure and implement a small internetwork. He/she can calculate variable lenght subnetting.

Content

Basics of routing, static and dynamic routes, directly connected networks and default routes. Dynamic routing and metrics. Distance Vector and Link State routing concepts, RIP version 1 and 2, and single area OSPF. Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) and Classless Inter Domain Routing (CIDR). Cisco IOS command line interface, router configuration and troubleshooting.

Routing domains and summary routes. Routing table structure, route lookup, load balancing and routing loop issues. Basics of EIGRP routing, and special issues of OSPF.
