Objective
After completing the course the student understands the essential methods in financial analysis and he/she knows when to apply a particular method. The student can reliably analyse personal and small-scale enterprise financial problems. The student can build analytical financial models applying Excel and Visual Basic.
Content
Percentages. Indices. Interests, compound interest, loans and payment schedules, leasing, calclating the cost of capital. Use of Excel in financial analysis. Introduction to Visual Basic.

Introduction to Programming and Database Management.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student can calculate basic percentages and interests using examples and ready-made calculation schemes. The student can do basic loan and investment analysis using ready-made calculation schemes. The student knows the most important Excel financial functions and he/she can use them in an appropriate way.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student masters the analytic financial analysis methods reliably and independently. The student has a good notion of how and when to apply the various methods. The student has familiarized himself/herself with the mathematical background of financial analysis. The student masters a good selection of Excel financial functions and methods.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has a good mastery of the mathematics of financial analysis. The student has a thorough mastery of how to use Excel in financial analysis and he/she is able to create tailored financial applications, applying Visual Basic if necessary. The student is able to create financial analysis tools for e.g. small-scale enterprises.
