Objective

Basic knowledge of materials and the theoretical backround of metallurgy
Principles of materials testing methods.
Properties of technical materials (steels) and the theoretical background. Atomic structure and the effect of microstructure on mechanical properties. Principles of heat treating of steels. Laboratory excercises: tensile, hardness and jominy tests. Metallography.

After this course students are able to make basic material tests: tensile, hardness, jominy tests and metallographic examinations.
