First Aid and Clinical Treatment in Clinical Laboratory WorkLaajuus (4 ECTS)

Objective

Students know how to provide help and administer first aid in emergency situations and in the most common cases of illnesses and accidents. Students obtain information on prevention of accidents as well as on health and its self-motivated promotion. Students obtain basic skills in and knowledge of nursing that are central in terms of the work of Biomedical Laboratory Technologists. Students familiarise themselves with the operations of a medical unit as part of the service chain for patients and understand the significance of co-operation between the medical unit and the laboratory.

Content

First aid contents equivalent to Finnish Red Cross first aid courses 1 and 2. Dealing with challenging situations in life. Interaction when working with clients; transportation of patients; injections, fluid treatment, bladder catheterisation and sampling; ensuring painlessness and pain management; the operations of a medical unit and its co-operation with a laboratory.
