Objective

The student knows different types of heat exchangers, their typical applications and functional differences, as well as dimension and select a heat exchanger for the usual purpose of HVAC technology use. The student can explain the principles and forms of heat transfer in the case of a pipe and apply them in heat transfer calculations for pipes. The student is able to explain the principles of dimensioning of accumulators and to dimension and select accumulators.

Content

The most common heat exchanger types and materials. Counter-flow, cross-flow and regenerative heat exchangers. Heat exchanger energy balance, logarithmic temperature difference, conductance and recuperation rate. Dimensioning and selection of heat exchangers. Pipe heat transfer. Cooling and freezing of flowing and stationary matter. Heating accumulators. Domestic hot water storage tanks. Dimensioning and selection of accumulators.
