Objective
The student
• is able to identify different categories of furniture, their special features and qualifications
• is able to evaluate and compare different functional and structural solutions
• can take into account ergonomical standards in furniture design
• masters all different phases of furniture design and will be able to utilise model building as part of the design process
• is able to make technical drawings of their designs
• is able to use machinery and tools with guidance in the wood workshop.
Content
• Furniture categories: special features and demands
• Principles of furniture design: functions, structures, materials, proportions, ergonomics and user centred design
• Design process: definition of objectives, creation, sketching, scale model, mock-up, prototype, technical drawings
• Wood workshop: wood materials, machinery and tools
• Documentation and presentations

The student
• has partially achieved the objectives of the course
• understands the whole related to loose furniture design with its associated components and student knows their significance as part of the quality of the final design work
• is able to take into account different aspects of loose furniture design in their own work
• has successfully completed the tasks.
