Objective
On completion of the work placement, the student will:
- be acquainted with working life in general
- be acquainted with the company or institute
- be able to apply theory to practice
- have created a good relationship with the company and the professionals in the conservation field
The students will have an idea of his/her interests and future area of specialisation.
The student will know the level of expertise required for different professional tasks and duties. The student will be able to plan his/her further studies and career accordingly.
Competencies: skills, related to working with literature, innovative thinking, documentation skills, practical conservation-restoration skills, material analysis skills, interpretation skills of material analysis results, teamwork skills, internationality and multiculturality skills.
Content
The work placement is a part of the Bachelor’s degree programme. The objective of the work placement is to introduce the student to the vital processes relevant for the student’s professional studies in a structures way. The aim is also to develop and support the student's know-how and skills in accordance with working life. The internship enhances the student´s skills, introduces the student to work in relevant areas according to his/her area of specialisation. It supports and complements the other studies for the Bachelor’s degree.
The work placement can be completed either in a Finnish or a foreign company, in a public institution or in any other appropriate organisation.
The student must write a diary and a report of the work placement.
Qualifications
The professional foundations of the degree programme's own orientation and professional studies from the period preceding the internship.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The work placement has been performed according to the required amount of credits and the written report is delivered to the lecturer responsible for the specialization.
Further information
Placement periods of a total of 30 credits are a mandatory part of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Conservation studies.
It is usually completed in two parts during the second and the third year of studies, 15 ECTS each.
The work placement must be done in the student's area of specialised studies. Typical internship places are conservation companies and museums.
Work experience before the studies is generally not accepted as work placement.
Placement will be either in Finland or abroad.
Evaluation is approved / failed.
