The student

• is able to support and guide children’s growth, development and learning and enrich children’s play
• can detect and identify children’s diverse individual and group needs and take them into account in the planning and implementation of activities
• is able to apply different methods of support and take into account the participatory and inclusive perspective in support practices.

Theories of child development and concepts of learning, and areas of learning in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) curriculum

Transversal competences in ECEC

• Play, theories of play and the significance of play in children's learning

• Peer relationships and peer learning

• Emotional education

• Language-, culture- and worldview-aware education

• Observing, documenting and supporting children’s development and activities
