Objective
Orthopaedics
After the course, students identify and are able to define the basics of the most common disorders/injuries treated in the fields of orthopaedics and traumatology. They are able to describe the pathophysiology, symptoms, examination methods and operative procedures of orthopeadic dysfunctions, as well as the orthopaedic rehabilitation.
Traumatology
Students identify and describe traumas not treated within osteopathy. They are able to explain the procedures that are either necessary or imperative before starting an osteopathic treatment. Students identify injuries requiring immediate or emergency treatment, and are able to make a referral for a person in need of traumatological treatment. They are able to explain the treatment methods used in traumatology.
Rheumatology
Student understand the main joint and soft tissue changes associated with autoimmune disorders. Student identify the basic symptoms and examination methods of rheumatic diseases. Student master the basics of rheumatic disease treatment and understand comprehensive role of the rehabilitation.
Radiology
Students know the principles of imaging diagnostics and are aware of the tissue changes visible in the different picturing methods. Students practice to translate radiologist´s texts.
Oncology
Students know the various forms and incidence of cancer. Students recognise the common signs and symptoms of cancer and takes into account possible changes and symptoms caused by cancerous growth in their patient examination.
Internal diseases
Students identify the main symptoms of major chronic diseases in Finland, and are able to describe their causes, examinations and treatments. Students are able to interpret the most common laboratory results.
Symptoms and signs
Students are able to combine use the previously learned medical information for their practical work in differential diagnostics. Students develop their observation skills of patient’s general condition as part of monitoring patient examining and treating.
