Objective
The student is able to explain the basic functions of metabolism, digestion, and hormonal functions and understands their significance in the function of the organ system.
The student is able to describe the aetiology, symptoms, treatment principles and mechanism of diabetes, main rheumatoid diseases and lower extremity vascular disorders, and the mechanism of lower extremity problems created by them. The student understands the principles of financial sustainability with high-risk customers and is able to justify their choices from the viewpoint of financial sustainability.
The student is knowledgeable of clinical examinations of diabetes, vascular disorders related to lower extremities and is able to perform the examinations as well as interpret the results of the examinations. The student understands the possibilities of podiatric methods in the prevention and treatment of problems related to diabetes, rheumatoid diseases as well as vascular disorders in lower extremities. The student is able to apply the methods as a purposeful part of the podiatric process.
The student is knowledgeable of the current practices in wound care and is able to classify, document, and assess the wounds being treated. The student is able to describe the causes as well as healing and treatment principles of different types of wounds. The student utilizes evidence-based information in wound care and understands the significance of multi-professional participation in the total care process of a wound patient. The student is able to participate as a specialist for lower extremity wound care in different workgroups and networks. The student is able to instruct the client, or the people close to the client in wound care prevention. The student specifically manages the different aspects of foot wounds and the treatment principles.
The student is knowledgeable of the possibilities of lymphatic therapy in the treatment of lower extremity swelling. The student is able to recommend medical support stockings to clients who need them and is able to describe the acquisition principles.
