Objective

The student is able to describe the indicators for therapeutic footwear, is knowledgeable the manufacturing process and is able to instruct a client in the usage of therapeutic footwear. The student understands the acquisition process of medical orthotic devices. The student is knowledgeable of the preparation methods and indicators of usage for the orthosis, that are prepared utilizing casting technique. The student is able to choose different methods and is prepared to use different techniques for orthosis in a client oriented manner. The student is able to design, prepare, and assess off-loading and pressure relieving orthosis utilizing different preparation methods.

The student is able to apply the student’s own competency in the assessment of the need for custom orthosis or therapeutic footwear. The student is able to assess the impact of orthosis, footwear and pressure relieving applications on lower extremity biomechanics. The student is able to apply orthotic therapy as a part of client’s other podiatric therapy.

-Properties and indicators of therapeutic footwear
-Preparation, manufacturing and acquisition process of therapeutic footwear
-Off-loading orthosis and footwear
-Orthosis prepared utilizing casting mould
-Assessments of the needs for orthosis
-Assessment of the changes in plantar pressure
