Objective
The student
• is able to describe the provision of laboratory services in the health care and social services sector as a whole
• understands the laboratory testing process in clinical chemistry, haematology and coagulation tests, and also in blood transfusions and near-patient testing
• is able to explain the significance of tests relating to the treatment of patients
• is able to plan and perform the collection, handling, preservation and transportation of samples to a high quality standard
• understands the significance of pre-analytics in laboratory work
• is able to analyse samples in compliance with quality requirements and recommendations and explain the principles of methods and devices used in laboratory activities
• is able to carry out quality assessment
• is able to assess the reliability of laboratory results and participates in the reporting of laboratory tests to different units by means of information systems, and understands the entire laboratory work process in patient care
• identifies the potential of using automation and artificial intelligence in laboratory work, and is able to use information systems
• adheres to ethical guidelines and the principles of occupational health and safety, and ensures patient safety
• understands the importance of asepsis and ergonomics in laboratory work
• identifies areas of development in laboratory work
