Objective

The student
• understands the significance of histological tests to the diagnostics of diseases
• is familiar with the key concepts and terms of pathology and the most common pathological changes at cellular and tissue level
• knows the principles of tissue sampling and processing, is able to prepare a histological sample and understands the importance of various work stages
• is familiar with the criteria of a high-quality histological sample
• is able to comply with work safety regulations and the general principles of sustainable development.

Content

• Key concepts, terms and mechanisms of pathology
• General pathology, tumour pathology, examples of organ pathology
• Taking and processing of tissue samples
• Preparation of histological specimens: tissue grossing, tissue processing, embedding,
sectioning, staining and microscopic examination
• Rapid section methods
• Histological basic and special staining, immunohistochemical detection
• Principles of working in a pathology laboratory: current legislation and occupational safety
• Quality management
