Objective

The student is able to explain the formation, movement, functioning and purpose of blood cells and their manifestation in different bodily fluids. Recognises blood cells based on their morphology. Is able to describe the operating principles of haematology analysers. Is able to explain the parameters included in a blood count test and understands its clinical significance. Is able to describe the blood coagulation system and knows the most common coagulation tests. Is able to justify the significance of pre-analytical factors to coagulation and blood count tests and to perform and analyse coagulation and blood count tests with high quality. Learns about the maintenance of blood count and coagulation equipment. Is able to assess the results in relation to reference values. Is familiar with the tasks of the biomedical laboratory scientist when collecting bone marrow samples and knows the tests that can be performed on bone marrow samples. Is able to identify and name cells in puncture fluids and knows the most common laboratory tests for puncture fluids. Identifies blood parasites. Learns more about sustainable development in laboratory work. Understands the potential of artificial intelligence in haematology examinations.
