Objective
The student understands the importance of development in the field of prosthetics and orthotics in various eras and knows the key landmark events and innovations. They recognise and understand that the field plays a part in sustainability in Finland and internationally. The student knows the basics of the prosthetic and orthotic service system and recognises the role and diverse job descriptions of the prosthetist-orthotist in these operating environments. The student understands the legislation and regulations governing the field of prosthetics and orthotics and can apply them as the studies progress. They understand their importance for client/patient safety.
The student understands and adheres to the principles and procedures of labour protection and occupational safety in the field of prosthetics and orthotics as well as in the manufacturing of individual prosthetics and orthotics. The student is able to correctly use the machinery and equipment necessary for manufacturing prosthetics and orthotics. The student works with them safely and has a basic understanding of how they function.

• Professional Ethics and evidence based practise
• Regulations and legislation governing prosthetic and orthotic services

• working aseptically and ergonomically
• Machinery, equipment and work methods used in manufacturing prosthetics and orthotics
