Objective
FINNISH COMMUNICATION
- The student knows the principles of information retrieval and knows how to search for professional information in their field from different sources.
- The student uses the sources in professional field in different texts and knows how to mark the sources.
- The student knows how to prepare basic texts for work-related communication.
- The student follows the conventions of written language and correctness.
- The student knows how to convey knowledge of their field orally and takes into account the field-specific requirements when presenting.
- The student is able to evaluate their professional language and communication skills and to talk about the importance of communication skills in the studies and duties of their professional field.
SWEDISH COMMUNICATION
- The student achieves the oral and written skills of the second domestic language required by the university of applied sciences legislation (Decree on universities of applied sciences 352/2003 8§), which is necessary for the tasks in their field.
- The student knows how to communicate in the working environment of their field in Swedish both in Finland and in the Nordic countries, considering the cultural and linguistic premises of those involved in the communication situation.
- The student's oral and written communication skills in Swedish are at least on a skill level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Qualifications
Acquiring professional language and communication skills in the second domestic language (Swedish) requires the entry level B1.1 of the European reference framework.

FINNISH COMMUNICATION
The student communicates understandably according to the given instructions and models. The student acquires information in a guided manner and uses it in their communication. The student participates in presentation and interaction situations. The student receives and gives feedback and evaluates their communication skills.
SWEDISH COMMUNICATION
In communication situations related to their professional field, the student copes with the most common general and sector-specific situations at work. They can write simple, partly inconsistent text. Errors can make it difficult to understand, but do not prevent understanding the message. They participate in simple interaction, but often needs support from the interlocutor. They control the usual vocabulary of their field and general language, but inaccuracies and the influence of other languages can disturb the message. They use the most common basic structures unilaterally and partially incorrectly. They mostly pronounce intelligibly, although the pronunciation differs from the target language and the slowness of the sentence rhythm makes it difficult to assess the functionality of the communication.

FINNISH COMMUNICATION
Additionally, the student takes the recipient of the message into account in their communication. The student writes texts that mostly follow the conventions of written language. The student obtains information, reviews and combines it in a logical manner. The student communicates in an interesting and clear way about matters in their professional field. The student gives constructive feedback to others, and uses the feedback they receive to improve their communicative skills. The student assesses and validates their own assessment of their communicative skills, and sets targets to the development of the skills.
SWEDISH COMMUNICATION
In communication situations related to their professional field, the student can cope moderately well in everyday general and sector-specific language use situations in working life. They can write a coherent text in terms of content, in which the message is conveyed, and take the initiative to participate in interaction in situations familiar to the field. They can use basic vocabulary of their own field and general language moderately well. There may be inaccuracies in word choice and shortcomings in structures, which do not, however, interfere with communication. They pronounce intelligibly, and breaks in sentence rhythm do not hinder the message from getting across.

FINNISH COMMUNICATION
Additionally, in communication situations in their professional field, the student uses convincing and effective means to communicate about field-related matters. The student writes professional and polished field-related texts. The student obtains versatile information independently from various sources, compares and combines the information, as well as expresses their own thoughts. The student is able to suggest ways to improve their professional communication skills.
SWEDISH COMMUNICATION
In communication situations related to their professional field, the student copes very well with a variety of demanding general and sector-specific language situations in working life. They can write clear and detailed text in a way that is appropriate and relevant to the situation. They participate actively and appropriately in interaction in professional situations. Speech is fluent and effortless and takes the conversation partner into account. They use a wide range of vocabulary from their own field and general language and use structures almost without errors. They pronounce clearly and the sentence rhythm is natural.

The student demonstrates oral and written Swedish language skills that correspond to the knowledge of a second domestic language according to § 6 of Act 424/2003 on the language skills required of public sector personnel in a bilingual authority with a grade of good or satisfactory. (rating scale: 4-5 = good and 1-3 = satisfactory).
