Objective

The student knows the physical phenomena of nuclear energy production and their connection to nuclear energy production and nuclear safety. The student knows the types of nuclear power plants used in energy production and the safety systems applied in them. The student will understand the use of small modular reactors for electricity and heat production. The student will be familiar with the main aspects of nuclear waste management. The student will know how the use of nuclear energy is controlled and how nuclear energy is used in Finland and worldwide.

The student knows the basic phenomena of reactor physics and can solve simple nuclear and radiation physics calculations. The student knows the basic concepts of nuclear reactors and power plants and their operation.

The student knows the basic phenomena of reactor physics and can solve nuclear and radiation physics calculations. The student knows the types of nuclear power plants used in energy production and their safety systems. The student is familiar with safety solutions for nuclear power plants and the principles of nuclear waste management. The student knows the trends in nuclear energy and the factors influencing them.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student understands the phenomena of reactor physics and can solve nuclear and radiation physics calculations. The student knows the types of nuclear power plants. The student knows the nuclear fuel cycle. The student understands the safety regulations for nuclear power plants. The student understands the principles of nuclear waste management. The student will understand the future trends in nuclear energy.
