The student understands the stages of waste management and the legislation related to the field. The student understands the side streams generated by industry and municipalities and how they can be recovered. The student knows waste treatment technologies.

- Municipal and industrial solid waste generation, collection, treatment and costs
- Biodegradable waste
- The role of the circular economy in waste management
- Waste treatment technologies and waste-to-energy plants
- Waste legislation and the national waste plan

Prerequisites

The student knows the basics of environmental management. The student knows the basics of chemistry. The student will recognize the function and purpose of environmental engineering equipment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student identifies the different stages of waste treatment. The student will recognise the different forms of waste. The student understands the importance of the circular economy for waste management.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the waste management chains. The student knows how a waste-to-energy plant works. The student knows the principles of waste legislation.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can plan waste treatment and the different stages of the waste treatment process. The student understands the importance of the recovery of waste treatment side streams.
