Objective

On completion of the course students know the basic skills of object-oriented programming and web development. Students know open application interfaces and are able to utilize these in their own applications. They are able to carry out a small software development project and are able to document the resulting output at a sufficient level. Students know the principles of software testing.

Students become acquainted with mathematical-scientific concepts and tools that form the basis of engineering education. They understand the connection of these contents to different aspects of information and communication technology and are able to apply the methods they have learned in practical problem solving.

Students are able to act purposefully as a member of a group and communicate in Finnish appropriately in oral and written interaction situations.

After completing the basic course in artificial intelligence, the student will understand the principles of large language models and their advantages and disadvantages. They will be able to use AI in a responsible and ethical way in learning, taking responsibility for the content of their own work and following good scientific practice.

- Basics of object-oriented programming
- Basics of web development
- Use of open application interfaces
- Code documentation and commenting
- Design and implementation of a small software project
- Basic concepts of vector computing and calculations
- Describing force, energy, and periodic motion
- Oral and written communication in Finnish
- Orientation to the professional field and studies
- Training and critically evaluating your own AI model. Understanding the concepts underlying AI and the correct context of use.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Student has achieved the course objectives. Student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. Student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. Student is able to define the course concepts and models and is able to justify the analysis. Student is able to apply his/her knowledge in study and work situations. Student understands the importance of expertise in the field of information and communication technology and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. Student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. Student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in study and work situations. Student is able to analyze expertise in the information and communication technology sector and the development of his/her own expertise.
