Objective
The student can explain the effects of various factors on a building’s energy consumption and draw building energy calculations using the monthly calculation method. The student can do a heat loss compensation calculation for a new building and prepare an energy certificate. The student can draw a computational summer indoor temperature analysis using a dynamic simulation tool. The student understands the concepts of life-cycle cost analysis and can calculate the payback period and net present value (NPV) of an energy project to support investment decision-making.
Content
Factors affecting building energy efficiency. Laws and regulations governing building energy efficiency. Monthly energy calculation. Computational energy efficiency rating (E-value), heat loss compensation calculation, and energy certificate preparation. Summer indoor temperature analysis using a dynamic simulation tool.
