Objective
After completing the course, the students are able to describe their education and work experience, present companies and products in their field, use basic field-related vocabulary, as well as online dictionaries and glossaries. The students understand simple texts in their own field and are able to produce short texts related to studies and working life, as well as communicate in Swedish in working life situations. The students are familiar with Swedish-language publications in their field, and are able to obtain information from them. The students achieve a sufficient oral and written level of Finland's other official language specified in the Universities of Applied Sciences Decree (1129/2014, §7) and required for work in their field.

Qualifications
European reference framework for languages skill level A2 or B1 in Swedish. This means that prior to the course, the students are able to communicate orally and in writing in familiar and routine situations, understand clear speech and text about familiar topics, and are able to use most of the basic structures of Swedish. The student has a vocabulary that is sufficient to survive in situations related to everyday life.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student communicates comprehensibly both orally and in writing in simple and routine work tasks and in other situations, although the communication is sometimes slow and inconsistent. The student understands the key contents of clear speech and text on familiar topics, and has sufficient command of the basic structures and vocabulary of the language to convey the message. Possible problems with pronunciation do not prevent the conveyance of the main content of the message.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to manage well in both work tasks and other everyday situations verbally and in writing. The student is able to write a coherent text in terms of content. The student understands normal-paced speech, but rarer topics and non-standard speech can cause difficulties. The student understands the main idea of demanding field-related texts, although details may remain unclear. The student knows how to use the structures of language in a versatile way, and mistakes do not hinder the conveyance of the message. The student's vocabulary is adequate for the communication of key issues in various tasks and situations. The pronunciation is understandable.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student communicates fluently, and actively participates in versatile, demanding communication situations in working life in an appropriate style. The student understands different language users without difficulty, although fine nuances and speech that differs significantly from standard language can cause difficulties. The student understands and produces sophisticated speech and text.
