Reinforced Concrete StructuresLaajuus (5 cr)
Course unit code: TM00FW63
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
Objective
On completion of the course, the student is expected to at least be able to explain the material properties of concrete, assess the impact of
different factors on the time dependent properties of concrete, compare reinforcement in different structures, define the exposure class of a structure and to understand the purpose of minimum reinforcement. In addition, the student can measure the bending and shear reinforcements of a simple reinforced concrete beam, explain and understand the related quantities and terms. The student can also interpret reinforcement lists and formwork and reinforcement drawings.
Content
1. The development of concrete structures
2. Properties of concrete and reinforcement steel
3. Time dependent properties and their impact on the structures
4. The impact of manufacturing method on creep and shrinkage
5. Interaction of concrete and reinforcement
6. Reinforcement
7. Reinforcement of beams
8. Concrete stress classes and durability design
9. Principles of dimensioning of bending and shear reinforcement of a beam subjected to bending
