Descriptions

The Degree Programme in Laboratory Sciences provide students with skills and know-how for expert and parctical duties in different fields of Laboratory Sciences.

Bachelors of Laboratory Services are familiar with laboratory operations and can perform their work according to common quality systems. Laboratory technologists work mainly in research, product development and quality control, but can in addition operate in sales, marketing and customer service as well as projects and supervisor positions. Work in this field requires good competencies both in chemical analysis and biosciences, and good team working skills.

Bachelors of Laboratory Services have good job prospects, finding employment in industrial, state and local administration, universities and various research institutes. They work in the chemical, food, wood processing, medical, diagnostics and biotechnology industries, environmental or biomedical and medical research institutes and state laboratories.

Objective

Key learning outcomes
After graduation the laboratory analysts:
- are able to independently organize and take responsibility for laboratory operations
- know how to conduct advanced biological and chemical analysis, and also how to develop and validate them
- know principles of common analysis equipment used in the industry and in the research institutes, and know how to maintain the equipment
- can evaluate the analysis result with statistical methods and report the results accurately
- know the quality standards related to the laboratory environment and issues related to environmental and work safety
- know the law, regulations, statutes and standards related to the field
