Objective

In these studies the student acts a member of the project group and takes part in making the research plan to identify microbes. During the practical work he/she uses the most important biochemical, microbiological and molecular biological research techniques. The student learns how to report in a scientific way.

Content

The most important research methods in microbiology and biochemistry that are related to the identification of microbes in practice (Different staining and culturing techniques; Determination of antibiotic resistance, enzyme reactions, latex agglutination and protein concentration; Electrophoresis; PCR, sequence analysis). Project plan and reporting.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has worked actively in the project. The project has been completed and the results have been reported.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition the the above, the student is also able to:
- write project plans and act either as a project group leader or as an active member and be goal-driven when implementing the project plan
- work in the group and if necessary organize the work differently
- present project plans and results orally and in writing to stakeholders
The project has achieved the set goals.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is also able to:
- plan a quite wide and diverse project, which includes many tasks
- familiarize him/herself beforehand with diverse sources and make a time schedule
The project is completed and the results are reported in time. The project has achieved the set goals well.

The student has worked actively in the project. The project has been completed and the results have been reported.
