Objective

The student
- is familiar with the phonetic systems of German and Swedish and masters the specific features of singing diction in these languages
- can recognise and produce the sounds of German, Swedish and Finland Swedish with sufficient clarity and create phonetic transcriptions of song texts using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA system).

Content

The student
- becomes familiar with the acoustic and articulatory phenomena of spoken language
- examines the phonetic nature of the singing instrument from the perspective of pronunciation
- becomes familiar with the phonetic systems of the most common singing languages, listens to native singers’ pronunciation through song examples, and practices recognising and producing the sounds of these languages with satisfactory authenticity
- is familiar with marking the sounds using the symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Hyväksytty/hylätty: Opiskelija tuntee saksan ja ruotsin kielen äännejärjestelmän sekä hallitsee lauludiktion erityispiirteitä näissä kielissä. Hän kykenee tunnistamaan ja tuottamaan saksan, ruotsin- ja suomenruotsin äänteet riittävän selkeästi sekä osaa tehdä lauluteksteistä foneettisia transkriptioita käyttäen kansainvälistä foneettista aakkostoa (IPA-järjestelmä).

Successful completion of the course requires participation in group instruction and completion of the tasks given during the course, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge and skills.
