Objective
The student
• is able to work as part of an ensemble
• masters different styles of rhythm and blues and understands their own role in the ensemble, both as a soloist and as an accompanist
• is able to play or sing from memory on their instrument the basic repertoire of rhythm and blues from different periods
• can take responsibility as a member of a group
• develops their interpersonal skills and is able to reflect on their own and others' work and express themselves orally and in writing
• is able to produce and interpret musical notation and can use the basics of improvisation in rhythm and blues.

Qualifications
Degree according to the extended syllabus level of basic education in music in Finland or equivalent skills and knowledge.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student
• is able to work independently and in a guided manner when practising the repertoire
• has a satisfactory mastery of the repertoire to be presented, e.g. can present it from memory if necessary
• is able to use expressive techniques specific to their instrument and to the chosen repertoire
• can perform and communicate with the ensemble and the audience
• understands their role in the ensemble and is able to communicate their own musical ideas.
