Objective

On completion of the course, the student
• can write instrumental or vocal compositions in the given style and context
• is able to use music writing methods in their work
• can perceive the importance of the lyrics in the overall performance
• can write music in a group and on their own initiative
• can produce a demo recording in a group or independently.

Content

• Seminar work and individual and group exercises
• Melody, harmony and rhythm of western popular and jazz music
• Composition and methodology, technique and writing exercises
• Working life and copyrights information

Qualifications

Degree according to the extended syllabus level of basic education in music in Finland or equivalent skills and knowledge.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student receives a pass mark, when they
• can write compositions and lyrics in a group or independently
• can make a demo recording of their music in a group or independently
