Objective

The student is able to observe and describe elements of music education practice used in these sessions, pedagogical processes, approaches and activities in creative group work. They can describe various elements, dimensions and emotional aspects affecting the participants in creative group activities. They can reflect these and connect them to theoretical knowledge and literature concerning developmental psychology, music education and pedagogy.

The student is able to recognise different approaches and values underpinning the understandings of creativity, learning and music education. They can use the elements of music education practice when creating music activities for a group of learners and try them out in practice with support from their student colleagues and teachers. They can describe the underlying approaches of learner-centred teaching and can direct their own learning to utilise these gradually in their pedagogical actions. They can reflect on their learning process as an educator, and facilitate interactive group work with their actions.

Content

Elements of music education practice, preparing for and constructing pedagogical processes, learning in a group, interaction in music activities, approaching different understandings and theories of learner-centred music education, individual and group reflection.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student
• is able to construct a brief teaching session and reflect on the learning that it provides
• can observe their own learning and identify the factors that affect holistic music learning in observed and experienced pedagogical situations
• is able to act as an active member of the group and can give constructive feedback to fellow group members about their contribution.
