Objective

After completing the course, the student
• can compose a leadsheet that shows the melody, chords, form, tempo and musical phenomena relevant to the identity of the piece
• is able to compose a score for guitar, drums and bass in the style of the instrument
• is familiar with the aesthetics rhythm & blues music through listening and notation examples
• has explored the aesthetics of rhythm & blues music by playing, where appropriate.

Content

The student develops an understanding of rhythm & blues music.The student will learn about the subject by listening to a wide range of music, analysing and evaluating sheet music and, where appropriate, playing.

Qualifications

Degree according to the extended syllabus level of basic education in music in Finland or equivalent skills and knowledge.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student
• identifies the characteristics of different periods of rhythm & blues music.
• is able to work independently and in groups
• is able to work independently on the leadsheet of a song.
