Objective
The student understands the significance of different recording techniques in successful sound production and recognizes characteristics and special features of different types of microphones. The student is able to describe various features and uses of studio equipment in different recording situations. The student is able to plan and implement a recording session and work collaboratively with musicians in a professional studio. The student is able to listen critically and analytically. The student is able to complete assignments according to schedule.
Content
Studio work, music technology skills and knowledge. Planning, organising and executing a large recording session. Recording assignments.
Qualifications
The student knows how to operate music production and studio equipment on a basic level. The student knows the fundamentals and terminology of hearing, sound and acoustics, the operating principles of electronic music devices and instruments, and is capable of searching for information regarding these. The student is acquainted with basic studio equipment and signal routing and knows how to use them appropriately in practical applications.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
- The student is able to work collaboratively with musicians in a music studio environment.
- The student is able to handle and use microphones properly in different recording situations in a studio environment.
- The student knows basic troubleshooting and problem solving in a demanding studio environment.
- The student is able to complete assignments according to schedule.
