Creative Music WritingLaajuus (5 cr)

Objective

The student can compose, arrange and write music for various pedagogical purposes. The student can creatively utilize various methods of music writing. The student is able to use music technology naturally as part of their expression. The student is able to work purposefully in a group and to give and receive constructive feedback on their own music and that of others. The student is able to express their musical opinions verbally and in writing and capable of producing a recording of their own music.

Content

Writing pedagogical compositions for different purposes and ensembles. Seminar work and completing assignments alone and in small groups. Creative composing and writing lyrics. Music technology for recording. Making demo recordings from one’s own music.

Qualifications

The student is able to use essential music applications and music technology tools.
The student knows the main means of expression in Western musical notation and is able to apply them in their own music production.
The student is able to listen to and study the music and lyrics of both themselves and others analytically, and apply what they have learned into making their own music.
The student is able to work actively and proactively in a group, as well as discuss and give constructive feedback on the contributions of other group members.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student can complete and submit the set exercises and assignments according to schedule. The student is able to act as an active member of the group and give constructive feedback on the contributions of other group members. The student presents and argues their own contribution to the group as agreed and is able to receive feedback and reflect on their own work.
